Book Jacket Illustrations

Project Role & Remit

Illustration

Working closely with renowned cover designer, Coralie Bickford-Smith, I created a large number of the illustrations that featured throughout this series. The project was fast paced with an initial release of 20 titles followed by a minimum of 7 further titles each month. This continued until we completed a total of 100 books for the full Penguin English Library series. There are particular favourites, but the project as a whole was rewarding in more ways then one. The crowning glory being that of the D&AD In Book Design Award 2013.

The illustrations were hand drawn and created in Adobe Illustrator. I utilised many of the features the programme has to offer and this enabled me to create the complicated scaled armour of the cobra for the book jacket of Kim by Rudyard Kipling.

Detailed below is a small selection of jackets illustrations I created. Individual illustrations were used to adorn further products to promote the series such as canvas bags and canvas prints and a selected few have gone on to feature within the Penguin Clothbound Classics Series.
